Review of Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942) by Jack W — 03 Jan 2010
I'm not one to have films hit me in the heart but this film did. When Cagney joins the men marching off to war after receiving his CMH and to everyone singing "Over There" you have to be heartless or Communist to not feel a little dust in your eyes.
The writing is clever throughout the film and the choreography and art direction are awesome. The songs and sound editing are just amazing. Cagney's performance carries the film though and man what a performance.
I did have issue with him being a little old through the film but what a natural piece of casting this was. The film was just plain heartwarming and good. A must see for any American kid. Hell, any American.
