Review of Wetlands (2013) by Brandon S — 08 Aug 2015
Let's just get this out of the way, Wetlands is not for everyone by any means. I consider myself as a brave filmgoer that doesn't shy away from much, no matter how absurd or disgusting the subject matter may be.
Wetlands made look away at least three or four times for it's unsettling images of the protagonist going about her daily rituals and other forms of rebelling from personal hygiene. Nevertheless the film does a great job painting a picture of a young girl's coming to terms with repressed emotions of her parents divorce and neglect.
Director Whendt comes into his own with this shocker and paves a way that could put him into the same circuit as other modern future cult filmmakers like Von Trier and Miike.
