Review of Water Lilies (2007) by Gita T — 22 Jul 2008
The acting was wonderful, the pacing could not have been better (these sort of things tend to drag on forever,) but emotionally, it just wasn't there. What could have been pivotal moments in understanding the characters were glossed over and not fully explained, and the character of Anne was completely underdeveloped, leaving me wondering as to her motives in a few scenes, such as the burying of the bra and the spit scene with Francois.
Would have scored lower, but the final cut of Marie opening her eyes directly into the camera was pure genius, and saved the rest of the film.
