Review of Union Bound (2019) by Steve R — 22 Apr 2016
This is a fascinating page in the history of the Civil War based on the incredible story of Sergeant Joseph Hoover of the Union Army, who escaped from a Confederate prison camp and made his way North with the help of black slaves and the Underground Railroad.
Director Oliver Stone's son, Sean, plays Hoover and is solid, as is Tank Jones as the slave who helps him. As directed by Harvey Lowry, the film looks beautiful, with gorgeous locations in the deep South, and riveting performances.
I also thought the musical score was terrific, with able work from a number of artists, including Cactus Moser.
