Review of Tokyo Sonata (2008) by Antti R — 27 Sep 2008
I made the mistake of expecting a masterpiece in the vein of Cure or Bright Future when I sat down to watch Tokyo Sonata, only to find a rather pedestrian comedic drama. Still, this film quickly won my heart over.
Kurosawa-san offers us (again) poignant observations of modern Japanese society in an interesting narrative. The film could have done well without the sentimental ending, but still, a solid four-star drama.
