Review of Tim's Vermeer (2013) by Jane L — 01 Jul 2014
As an art and art history enthusiast, I thoroughly enjoyed this film. Before I even heard of TIM'S VERMEER, I had read various articles, some of them by David Hockney, about theories similar to those posed in it.
However, they usually applied to earlier Renaissance painters, such as Van Eyck and Leonardo. So this gave me a broader understanding about who might have used Camera Obscuras to aid them in the arts.
I also loved seeing this applied in real life, and the scenes of Tim painting the room were absolutely mesmerizing. I loved this film, however, I can imagine that non-art lovers could find TIM'S VERMEER a bit tedious.
But on the whole, this is a well-crafted, well-informed and well-thought out documentary, and really does prove that art and science are more related than we give them credit for.
