Review of Threads (1985) by Tamatai N — 31 Jan 2011
Horrific. And by that I mean, almost to the point of maddeningly horrific. Threads is a film that doesn't sugarcoat, doesn't compromise and doesn't shy away. It presents a vivid and brutal portrait of the effects of a nuclear holocaust in all its graphic horror.
To think that it was made in the 80s as a TV movie is a true testament to the film-makers who somehow managed to achieve such an epic and masterful film. Sure, it's flawed and somewhat dated. But much like the most recent post-apocalyptic masterpiece, The Road, it is indeed an extremely powerful and important work that one should experience at least once in their lives.
