Review of Theodora Goes Wild (1936) by Joe M — 17 Oct 2018
Absolutely crackling first rate screwball comedy! Dunne is outstanding! And Douglas is not far behind! Their chemistry is fantastic! And the supporting cast are all top notch!
The story is pure cotton candy of small town 'old' maid (Dunne) who, under an assumed name, writes a scandalous book that becomes a bestseller. She tries to keep her identity under wraps but the cover illustrator (Douglas) finds her out and kind of shames her out by having her fall in love with him. Yet, he leaves her and its then its up to her to turn the tables on him back in big, bad NYC.
A light hearted confection of a film that rises above its cliched premises by being well written, acted and directed.
