Review of The Yellow Sea (2010) by Dominik G — 29 May 2012
The director's follow up to the exceptional Korean thriller "The Chaser" is a bleak mystery with unsympathetic characters but like Pusher or Happiness its construction draws you in. An assassination gone wrong sets off a chain of relentless violence and the cracking pace and action set pieces are almost ruined by camera work that would make even Paul Greengrass lose focus.
Seriously, what is the point of creating an effect akin to mounting a camera to a washing machine and setting it to the spin cycle? Great performances and the need to know answers prove once again that the Koreans are making the best thrillers at the moment.
