Review of The Wind That Shakes the Barley (2006) by Daniel L — 15 Jul 2008
Wow, this movie blew me away.
An amazing account of something that really gains minimal recognition in history (I honestly didn't know anything about this before the film).
It is brutal but real, nothing is dressed up to be more than it is. At some points, it is painful to watch, but the film itself is extremely powerful, telling the story of a true point in history that caused men to first unite then turn on each other.
Cillian Murphy is unsurprisingly flawless. The rest of the cast is a great addition.
Whether to be informed of the events that took place from a personal view within Ireland, or to watch a stunningly well-done piece of cinema...see this film.
