Review of The Wicker Man (1973) by Darryl J — 27 Oct 2008
A wonderfully creepy and unsettling film that should have NEVER been re-made. You can say that for most re-makes but the one with Cage is especially puke-inducing. Edward Woodward was great as a cop who's looking for a missing girl.
Everything in this was so weird. It creeped me out to no end. The score which included mostly folk songs was effective as hell. It's so easy to just use some stock horror music but the music they used really got under my skin.
The story itself is amazing. It can be taken as just a weird and creepy film but can also be viewed as a story of opposing religions. Christianity vs. Paganism, The ending is so unexpected. I was generally shocked.
It's completely memorable and,for the umpteenth time, CREEPY AS HELL.
