Review of The White Countess (2005) by Michael C — 01 Sep 2006
Fascinating! A wonderfully shot British movie about prewar Shang Hai. Ralph Fiennes (one of all-time best actors for me) acts amazingly as Todd Jackson, American diplomat. You really believe he's blind! An outstanding performance! Natasha Richardson is also persuasive enough as poor Russian countess.
A hard movie. A hard to watch for me. To realise what the history has made to my nation. Nation suffered from communism and WWII more than any other in the world. Aristocracy, the most educated and decent people of their time, they lost everything, had to leave their country for tens of years and lost all the friends.
This is the history of my nation that had to suffer for all the 20th century.... :( .......
