Review of The Whisperer in Darkness (2011) by Brian S — 29 Jun 2012
A wonderful adaptation of a Lovecraft story from the same people who brought us the excellent silent treatment of "The Call of Cthulhu." This time, it's the Mi-Go, the fungi from Yuggoth, out to conquer the world, and it's up to Miskatonic University Professor of Folklore Albert Wilmarth to stop them.
.. if he can! What's particularly strong about this film is that it infuses the atmospheric horror of Lovecraft with the fun that those involved obviously had making it. Shot in black and white and bringing together both modern sensibilities and the feel of a 1950's B-flick, The Whisperer in Darkness is a real joy to watch, and it works whether or not you're familiar with Lovecraft's work.
Even if you know the original short story upon which this is based, this one will suck you in and keep you in suspenseful entertainment every minute. It's a do-not-miss for fans of all things Lovecraftian!
