Review of The Untouchables (1987) by Paloma S — 27 Jan 2013
Within 30 minutes of watching it I knew I was going to love this movie. The story of the efforts of young and idealistic officer Eliot Ness and his group of agents "The Untouchables" to bring down gangster Al Capone in the Chicago of the Prohibition-era has every single cliché of the gangster-film genre beautifully depicted.
With simple yet impeccable narrative, great edition, score, screenplay and cinematography, Brian de Palma's directorial touch can be seen in every scene. The performances are exquisite, Sean Connery is unbelievable good and so is the rest of the cast led by Kevin Costner.
Extra kudos for the staircase scene, possibly one of the best scenes in film history.
