This is a realistic, gripping look at a marriage trying to hold itself together by avoiding the underlying issues of infidelity and lack of communication. it exposes this theme in a very creative way..

.the wife is having an affair, but the audience is not witness to it, instead the story focuses on the crumblings of the family as a result...the story centers on the family and rarely deviates it's focus, so the audience is given a front row seat as the husband and wife skirt the issue of her infidelity and the effect their strained relationship is having on the children.

the best part is dennis leary, who initally enters the story as a hostile dental patient but soon becomes an imaginery confidant to the husband...he exists throughout the movie in the husband's head to witness the family occurences and offer his perpective in a very comical and entertaining way.
