Review of The Searchers (1956) by Jordan L — 03 Dec 2011
Very tough film to watch due to the film's hatred of Native Indians and yet this picture influenced many well known filmmakers today. Ford's film is also a visual extravaganza, the powerful clear shots of his fav location to shoot westerns at Monument Valley.
The Searchers have sweet scenes between the relationship of Martin Pawley (Jeffery Hunter) and his gf Laurie (Vera Miles) due to her attraction for Pawley (a scene where Pawley is having a bath and Laurie splashes water on him) and another sweet tender scene between Ethan and his sister-in-law Martha (Dorothy Jordan). Film fans have recently took note that in reality she has a secret love and attraction for Wyane's character. "The Searchers" for good or for bad has moments of share love and affection and strong rage of hate and racial tensions.
