Review of The Rum Diary (2011) by Theophilus W — 18 Apr 2012
An adaption of a Hunter S Thompson novel ( of which I have not read any! ) that is a simple and enjoyable story and has a much more restrained than usual performance from Depp, especially compared to his films of late.
It's nice to see Depp's more subtle approach and shows what a great actor he is. There is great acting all round from the main cast but Ribisi is above all of them and get's most of the laughs as the alcoholic cohort with an ear for Nazi propaganda.
I really liked it.
