Review of The Republic Of Love (2004) by Amrita S — 27 Aug 2007
This movie by Deepah Mehta is a delightful little romance with some beautiful indian music in a modern setting, adding some spice to the romance. It is idealistic in its spark, which makes it a little unbelievable, but stands in contrast to the rest of the movie which shows that such a love is rare and special and makes it charming.
A story of true love, and the resistance of it because of fear. A subtle analysis of love with a unique and somewhat difficult background for it that only makes it more dear. The characters were fairly well developed, you liked them :) Although, I also confused a couple of the characters at first, they look similar, and the choppy but affective style of photography added to the confusion of those two characters, but that changed pretty quickly as I came to understand the plot.
