Review of The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985) by Daniel C — 03 Dec 2007
Extremely original picture that not only romanticises cinema but reveals its nasty side and the dirty tricks to keep everyone hooked to an unachievable fantasy. A gorgeous performance by both Farrow and Daniels, this love letter understands the limits of cinematic fantasy and has so much hope that when juxtaposed with the American depression it is made all the more poigniant.
