Review of The Puffy Chair (2006) by Justin M — 24 Jan 2010
I realized a little while ago that the more movies I've seen, the more it takes to truly blow me away. But The Puffy Chair did. The film is just so ballsy in the way it depicts things as true-to-life, creates complex characters and relationships between them, and executes tonal shifts between hilarious and heartbreaking.
"Slice of life" sounds cliche, but this is a slice of someone else's life, something completely personal, to the point that we never even learn what the puffy chair means. Amazing performances from Katie Aselton and Mark Duplass, and some absolutely unforgettable scenes.
I haven't stopped thinking about it since I saw it.
