Review of The Place Promised in Our Early Days (2004) by Niall S — 03 Dec 2007
Interesting; it starts out as what seems to be some sort of quiet life-affirming slice of life sci-fi, akin to Aria or Quiet Country Café, before going off a more bizarre route involving the intermingling of dreams and reality; akin in some ways to Brazil, except without the comedy or pessimism. Unfortunately though, unlike that film, the story is not especially well developed, and often leaps about with little concern for coherency; entire plot points seem to change with no explanation. Furthermore, it's rather strangely edited, as if it were actually intended to be an OVA series instead.
This is all a shame, as it's frequently quite beautiful, both to look at and story-wise (the bits that add up, at any rate).
