Review of The Phenom (2016) by Vic S — 29 Jun 2016
Johnny Simmons delivers on par with Giamatti and Hawke, who are at the top of their game inhabiting character and delivering dialogue that feels honest and believable with every word. Simmons is convincing as a jock whose rise brought both privilege and burden.
This picture is deeply affecting and gripping without being manipulative or over-the-top. Intellect and subtlety are at work that I've rarely seen outside the strongest British dramas.
