Review of The New World (2005) by Lukas R — 16 Aug 2009
An extraordinary film. The improvised performances, use of only natural light, and Malick's general visual style (deep focus lenses, constant cross-cutting between the characters and their surroundings), and his use of montage make you feel like you're really there.
The introductory arrival in Virginia, seen from the perspective of the Native Americans, is stunning.
