David Robert Mitchell's naturalistic approach to telling this story is something to behold. He sidesteps the tropes of the coming-of-age genre successfully, which makes "The Myth of the American Sleepover" an minor success.
There needed to be a bit more depth to the characters and overall plot to make it a truly memorable experience.
