Review of The Midnight Meat Train (2008) by Andrea H — 09 Sep 2009
Never heard of this film till someone told me about it the other day. Thats really saying something. Absolute crime, the lack of publicity this film recieved is terrible, It was put aside in favour of the inferior The Strangers. No wonder Clive Barker is pissed.
Being a big fan of Clive and Ryuhei Kitamura's past work, I expected to be wowed. In fact, I was. The gore effects, are supurb. The only problem I found with them, is the cgi work looks really fake. The physical stuff is top notch.
Kitamura's work in the past has always been about the splendid cinematography and 180-360 degree camera work, upclose gore shots etc. His fight choregraphy is fast, quick and never needlessly complicated, you get to see everything on screen.
The man certainly doesn't dissapoint here, if you have or haven't seen his previous films like Versus and Alive, you will definetly appreciate his first american outing regardless.
