Review of The Limits of Control (2009) by Elliot H — 17 Jan 2010
If you watch Jarmusch's films of the last couple of years you will notice a very specific storytelling structure that is undoubtedly his own and Limits of Control is yet another example. It's slow moving, but rarely uninteresting.
It follows one character extensively and designates all other performances as merely significant cameos. There is a wealth of visual and textual motifs running throughout. It's highly symbolic. The dialogue is sparse and is mostly used to express a metaphor or prophecy.
And the conclusion is not a surprise, but still a satisfying end to the journey. I really liked this film.
