Review of The King of Comedy (1982) by Settimio P — 04 Aug 2008

I wondered and marveled watching this film again, the humour and tragedy of the story seem balanced and so intertwined that even the ending could be read both ways preserving the power and poignancy of the story.

I loved De Niro's character and performance, and appreciated the direction which gave insight into his inner world and also of its reality and context. I was filled with hilarity at each scene where Berhard stepped in, I got so much more from a look of her than any line she could have said.

I was hysterical at the climax of the film where the absurdity and also credibility of the script seemed to create such an exciting and enjoyable circumstance I got very involved and partecipated to the events with passion, although it was my second viewing.

I would like to see this again and again as I was delighted by it, I guess it will be one of those films I can consider like a good friend to whom it is always a pleasure to go back to.
