Review of The Kid (2010) by Stephen M — 20 Mar 2011
A decent low budget film, strongly supported by its cast, but occassionally let down by its budget and some iffy directorial choices (i.e. the classroom detention scene: Nice idea, doesn't work). Whilst a harrowing true story its miz-lit origins shine through, so for most part its depressing viewing, whilst there's something about the ending which doesn't quite ring true (taking on a mob-boss with no consequences?).
Natascha McElhone's performance is completely overlooked - personally, I thought she was brilliant; completely unrecognisible. Its a fair story of good triumphing over evil, but it can be a harsh, grim slog at times.
