Review of The Hottest State (2007) by Kimya K — 03 Sep 2007
It seemed with this film that Hawke was trying to mine "truth" into the romantic genre, but what he missed was that by anaylising the loves of these two youngsters he left us out in the cold of the Internal world of Sara and forced us to listen to the self indulgence of the wannabe actor who spoke every bloody thought anyway! we missed nothing that needed filling in and the film would have been amazing if her voice was the main v.
O or removing it completely and allowing us to be subjective to the characters. Catalina Moreno is one to keep your eye on. Hawke could be a great director but should work with someone elses script as the visuals were great like a cinematic poetry at times.
