Review of The Harder They Come (1972) by Timothy C — 25 Sep 2007
This great film, the first feature film produced in Jamaica features an outstanding reggae soundtrack (from star Cliff) that underscores the plot of a man who comes to the city to make it big singing reggae.
Very quickly though, he finds life in the city to be harder than he thought, and is taken advantage of by both the record producer and the marijuana boss he later starts dealing for. After killing a police officer, events start escalating that make him Jamaica's most wanted man, and a momentary hero to all the oppressed.
A landmark film.
