Review of The Hallelujah Trail (1965) by Ruth L — 03 Aug 2008
This has all the elements of a great comedy western...a wagon train of liquor, the army sent to guard it, a temperance leader there to destroy it, Indians to steal it, Irish to go on strike over it, miners to insure it's safe delivery, and Preston Sturges to direct.
Alas, it was made for audiences who are more patient. Sturges could have shaved an hour off the movie and still left all the laughs, plot, and character development. Many of the funny scenes went on long after I stopped laughing.
Good cast, though.
