I watched this movie with my 10 and 13-year-old kids and we all LOVED it. It is one of those rare family movies that doesn't rely on gross/immature humor, too much noise or sight gags to try to appeal to kids but rather on excellent acting and story-telling to keep their attention.
The tone was just right, not dumbed down or overly sweet or sentimental. The actress who played Gilly was amazing. Even my daughter could see the difference between her natural performance and the teen-focused melodramas she sometimes watches.
We were all touched by this movie. It gives kids a lot to think about in terms of overcoming disapointments, adjusting to life changes and connecting with others. I very strongly recommend it!
