Review of The Executioner's Song (1982) by Alex A — 04 Jul 2010
Even though the script was written by Norman Mailer himself how can you transpose a 1000 pages book filled with characters and their full life stories into a film? They tried and failed.
Gary Gilmore wasn't for sure a normal guy but he did have some depth in him. In here he just crosses over as a totally meaningless killer who acted on impulsive a couple of nights and then decided do die. The whole discussion on prison rehabilitation is lost.
Actors do try to make it work. Beautiful young Rosanna Arquette!
