Review of The Element of Crime (1984) by Christopher L — 26 Aug 2007
The fantastic debut from lars von trier.
Beautifully shot by tom elling in sepia tones with the occasional flash of bright blue, it remains a mesmerizing work by one of international film's most brilliant auteurs we've seen in the past few decades.
Rich with anxiety, paranoia, and a deeply rooted hopelessness that only modern progress can envision, it remains one of the most haunting films i've seen and an absoluter masterwork of post-modern noir.
