Review of The Crow: Wicked Prayer (2005) by Shane J — 08 Apr 2010
I had heard a lot of bad things about this fourth installment in the Crow saga and expected it to be a real stinker. Instead, it would be my choice for second best in the franchise. You can certainly see that this was a low budget quickie production but it doesn't descend into Ed Wood territory.
The story is rather muddled in a not entirely successful attempt at the mandatory non-linear storytelling of this series. The cast brings together a lot of acting talent but the script gives them characters with too little dimension and some ridiculous dialog.
The screenplay does, however, go for a more morally nuanced story and to a substantial extent succeeds in that effort. The final product is not great but it is quite good.
