Review of The Blackout (2009) by Jamie B — 13 Oct 2010
This film's plot synopsis is probably my favourite ever:
"On Xmas Eve, residents of an LA apartment complex are trapped in darkness when deadly creatures emerge from basement...".
Mainly because with that lead-up it could hardly go wrong in my eyes. But, alas, it did. Still, I was strangely gripped, even though bad direction, uncertain actors (and that's being kind) and a cinematographer who absconded halfway through made it near impossible to know what was happening most of the time. But I'd rather watch a shoddy horror made with 100% passion than a "high-end" prestige effort made only with awards and backslaps in mind. Go, The Blackout, you dodgy, wondrous piece of shit.
