Review of The Big Picture (1989) by Zack H — 29 Jul 2009
Very funny look at the film industry during the '80s. Much of the commentary still rings true, for better or worse. This is filled with a great cast of up-and-comers (at the time, because now most of them are famous), portraying many of the recognizable stereotypes, from studios execs (J.
T. Walsh) to conniving young actresses (Teri Hatcher). It's fun and interesting to see a Christopher Guest film before he went on to direct mostly mockumentaries (Best in Show being my favorite). The films within the film are rather uninspired, but they make their point.
And this film makes a few good points as well. It's pretty underrated. Check it out.
