Review of The American Astronaut (2001) by Cli O — 19 Nov 2008
Perhaps the musical interludes are a bit ponderous at times, sure. But McAbee had me at hello - or, in this case, the first scene of the film, a dance contest at an interplanetary watering hole. Not that it's downhill from there, necessarily - he has a gift for making the absurdities of this plot seem well within the bounds of reason.
Beautifully shot, too, especially on the budget.
