Review of Sweet Charity (1969) by Carina M — 11 Aug 2007
This is definitely worth seeing. As usual Shirley MacLaine is sweet, funny and warm. The musical numbers, especially the dances choreographed by Bob Foss are fantastic, if not a little funny for modern viewers because they are so 1960s.
The plot may not be the most interesting, but it does feature early hippies and deal with feminist issues. Also, some of the traditions of comedy, romance and musicals are turned upside down: the twist at the end, for once, surprised me.
