Review of Street Trash (1987) by Nathan N — 06 Nov 2008
Probably the filthiest movie I have ever seen, Street Trash takes on epic crisscrossing storylines concerning a small group of homeless men living in a New York City junkyard, and hyperbolizes all of their trials and tribulations to extremely absurd levels (the $1 vodka that melts them alive upon swigging is just the most apparent example).
This disgusting and cruel chaos is reminiscent of how Tromaville citizens must feel day to day, but this is more than just a Toxie rip-off. Beautiful camerawork and lengthy tangential scenes make this film feel more inspired, and while it meanders from its plot synopsis far more than the typical 80s splatterfest, it makes up for it in scope.
Confused as I am trying to review this bizarre flick (which may be a failed narrative or may be genius), I'm going to give it the benefit of the doubt and hand it to the filmmakers for attempting to make Once Upon A Time in the Gutter.
