Review of Somewhere (2010) by Brian B — 28 Apr 2011
A beautifully filmed movie that meditates on the mundanity of celebrity. Coppola is not interested in blowing through the plot but rather lets the viewer meander through the lives of the characters. It is probably a disconnect for some viewers, the long sequences without dialogue or action, but the realism of her work is unique in the world of studio indulgence and excess.
And I normally hate precocious children, but Elle Fanning is cute as a button, devoted as she is to her louse of a father. I did not like the unresolved ending.
