Review of Sleepless (2001) by Alice C — 21 Aug 2007
Not Dario Argento's best, but still a fair one. An uncommon role for an always great Max von Sydow, an overall good cast, a fair dose of gore (even too much in some scenes, but not unexpectedly) and the director's trademark 80's flair (lighting, music, settings, etc.
) make for an entertaining couple hours. The only thing that let me slightly down is the poor-quality nursery-rhyme: while I normally love similar features in movies and books (Agatha Christie's oeuvres, The Tommyknockers, etc.
), I thought that the one in sleepless was badly written (notice that the largest name in the end credits is Asia Argento's, "author of the rhyme" - and daughter of Dario, of course) and way too gory to be believable, as mean as children's songs can be.
