Review of Shame (2011) by Pedro T — 10 Feb 2013
I was originally going to give this film four stars, but I realised there seemed no good reason to give it any less than five. Everyone involved deserves serious credit: actors, director, editor, sound, cinematographer etc.
It is a film charged with raw power, and delivered with impeccable skill by Fassbender; it is a work of consummate beauty. Sex has never seemed so soulless and unsexy. It shows that even an addiction such as this journeys down some very dark corridors indeed (both literally and figuratively).
Addiction films like 'Trainspotting' and 'The Basketball Diaries' seem utterly trivial and devoid of substance in comparison.
