I thought Maggie Gyllenhaal's portrayal of someone struggling with her emotions and they way in which they manifested themselves was very convincing and heart warming, as for james Spader I felt his character had quite a sad pitiful personality which ultimately let Maggie down and proved him to be a shallow self centered selfish loser.
