Review of Sayonara (1957) by Drew C — 23 Jul 2007
Famed director Josh Logan takes a hard bitten look at racism involving the Japanese post-World War II. Brando continued his hot streak in the early 50s and Miko Taka is lovely as the woman who he falls in love with.
The real scene stealers are Miyoshi Umeki and Red Buttons as a young couple faced with the uneasy task of being a couple in those troubled times. Resonant, daring, and important, Sayonara is worth it.
