Review of Russian Ark (2002) by Chance D — 08 Sep 2007
One of the greatest cinema experiences of my life. Even if it wasn't filmed all in one take (thanks to digital technology) the story and execution would make this a worthwhile experience. But the single shot adds a level of elegance and haunted beauty not otherwise capable.
Not only is it the longest single take in the history of cinema (so far) it is also the first movie told completely in first person, a style that was experimented with by Orson Wells in the forties and by some adaptations of pulp fiction novels.
An astounding experience. Netflix it now.
