Review of Rock the Kasbah (2015) by Brad P — 27 Jul 2016
I'm slightly disgusted with how many professional film reviewers apparently missed the deliberateness of this narrative. Weirdness, unevenness, misogyny, pervasive violence, and political incorrectness to boot - THAT'S THE POINT of a movie about something as strange as karaoke music in a dystopian war zone! This duality is consistent throughout the movie and well done.
This is a narrative about polar oppositions that cannot be conventionally reconciled (politically, culturally, by gender, or in seemingly any other way). But then there was Music and then there was Salima Kahn.
Make no mistake about it, this is Bill Murray-noir at its its sad-sack, self depreciating best while managing to uplift the soul at the same time.
