Review of Regression (2015) by Edwin B — 15 Feb 2016
Barely rewarding...
It's true that there isn't much in the way of trailblazing cinema going on here. Movies centering around topics that are directly related to the specific beliefs of Christians are not usually entertaining (to this free-thinker)...even when they are more or less full-fledged cinematic demon-horror fantasy.
That this is basically a psycho-drama that doesn't go down the road of overt fantasy definitely plays in its favor...as does the "whew" moments by the end of the movie.
How on Earth the new 'fresh voice of Hollywood feminism' signs on to play a young woman with a personal desire to turn an entire town on its head, simply because she can, is the most eyebrow-raising part of this production. Naturally, I'm waiting for the full report on how the patriarchy forced her into it.
