Review of Red River (2009) by Adrian B — 05 Oct 2010
Following the gorgeous "Shane," I watch the film "Red River" and it is almost as beautiful. John Wayne and Montgomery Clift heard a massive group of cattle from Texas to Kansas (possibly theorizing at one point they may go too far north to Canada and that is the first time I have ever heard Canada used in a western).
Great cinematography and score, fantastic plotline, and indeed, Wayne's corrupt character in this film almost goes hand-in-hand with his evil one in "The Searchers." Walter Brennan is fantastic as his usually querky self and the written illustrations are interesting, but I wish they were on screen a little longer for me to read though I could have pressed "pause.
" Another beautiful film.
