Review of Ratcatcher (1999) by Kyle 4 — 18 Mar 2004
Another two films to add to the list of movies I really liked but will probably never watch again: Ratcatcher for it's subject matter, tGtB&tU for its length.
My problem with Ratcatcher was the tone of it... I couldn't quite pin it down, and it seemed all at once like it was trying to say something, and then also just being sort of a slice-of-life film... It felt like artifice, and even though it was well-crafted artifice, it just didn't grab me. Still, there's much to commend to it.
The good, the bad and the ugly really surprised me. I'm not a huge western fan at all, so a rating this high for a film of this genre is really quite high praise indeed. I particularly liked Tucco - what a great acting job! The inclusion of the civil war elements really made this film stand out, and really made me pay attention.
